SHORT-TERM STUDY IN GERMANY (CBA494/GBA694 - FALL 2021, TRAVEL IN JANUARY 2022)

From January 4th to 13th 2022, a group of 20 undergraduate and MBA students from CSULB led by Dr. Hieu Nguyen (Marketing Department) visited Germany as part of the Fall 2021 course CBA494/GBA694. This class centered on business in Germany, the largest economy in Europe, with a focus on innovation and sustainability, covering reading materials, cases, and videos that highlight Germany’s export strength, labor relations, innovation, sustainability, as well as the current issues facing the country.

Once in the country, the group visited Munich and Frankfurt and attended presentations by corporate executives from renewable energy companies as well as a large multinational automotive corporation. These presentations gave students an overview of the companies’ strategies in spearheading renewable energy and electric vehicles initiatives, providing them with a valuable opportunity to compare and contrast the differences between German and US corporate strategies in this push toward a cleaner and greener future.

Additionally, the group also toured Munich and Frankfurt, including exciting visits to Bayern Munich’s home stadium Allianz Arena, the BMW museum, and the residence of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, widely regarded as the greatest and most influential writer in the German language. No study tour is completed without great camaraderie and fun, and the CBA494/694 class wasn’t an exception. The students and professor bonded over German food, beer, conversations, laughter, and memories that everyone will treasure for the rest of their lives.
