MSIS students win 2nd place at CSU AI Hackathon
MSIS students, Sejal Daterao and Harsha Vardhan, won 2nd place at the CSU AI Hackathon with PulseCall, an AI system that answers patient calls and, in under two seconds, deploys four agents to schedule appointments, process prescription refills, assess urgency, and notify providers—all while writing to real, verifiable FHIR R4 medical records on a live system. Designed to address the longstanding issue of nurses spending 30–40% of their time on intake calls, PulseCall demonstrated a practical, real-time solution to reduce administrative burden in healthcare. The most memorable moment wasn’t the award, but the silence in the room as judges listened to a 47-second live demo—proof that the system worked, end to end, without simulation.
