International Student Programs

Do you love CSULB and enjoy meeting people from around the world? Here’s your chance to turn that energy into something meaningful.

The Center for International Education is now recruiting Global Beach Ambassadors for Fall 2026. With hundreds of new international students arriving on campus, we’re looking for friendly, enthusiastic students who want to help create a welcoming and supportive experience from day one.

As a Global Beach Ambassador, you will:

• Welcome new international students to CSULB
• Help them explore campus life and experience Long Beach culture
• Support their transition into a new environment
• Participate in events like pre-arrival orientation, in-person orientation, and campus scavenger hunts
• Build genuine connections with students from around the world

Starting at a new university in a new country can feel overwhelming. You have the opportunity to make a lasting difference by helping someone feel comfortable, confident, and connected.

Important note: This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity. While the role is not paid, it offers valuable experience and recognition that can support your future goals.

• Earn a Certificate of Leadership from the Center for International Education upon completion
• Receive a signed letter of appreciation for your portfolio, internships, or job applications
• Gain meaningful volunteer and leadership experience in the U.S.

Who can apply?

• Current CSULB students continuing through Fall 2026
• Undergraduate and graduate students
• Domestic and international students

Commitment Requirements:

• Attend 1–2 virtual training sessions in June and July
• Participate in the following required events:
  • Pre-Arrival Orientation (Virtual – July)
  • In-Person Orientation (August 19, 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM)
  • In-Person New Student Scavenger Hunt (August 20, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM)
  • In-Person New Student Social Event (August – exact date TBD)

The Intercultural Diplomats program is a cross-cultural exchange program for K-12 classrooms in the Long Beach community.

Diplomats are CSULB international students who are selected to give lessons that encourage global competence, appreciation of other cultures, and creating a positive relationship between members of different cultures. Diplomats will develop global competency and leadership skills while also forming positive relationships with persons from multiple, diverse American backgrounds.

  • The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and IIE are pleased to release new findings from the Open Doors® Report on International Educational Exchange. Experts will present data on international student enrollments in the United States during the 2023/24 academic year and U.S. students studying abroad during the 2022/23 academic year.

    • This event is ideal for university leaders, international education coordinators, scholarship officers, and faculty focused on global partnerships, hosting French students, and promoting Franco-American educational and cultural exchanges.
    • Join AASCU, the U.S. Embassy in France, and MICEFA for the launch of Generation 250, a program offering 250 French students scholarships to study in the U.S. starting in Fall 2026, aimed at strengthening cultural and academic ties between the two nations. Generation 250, a scholarship program launched by the U.S. Embassy in France to celebrate the U.S. bicentennial, will offer 250 French students scholarships to study in the U.S. starting Fall 2026, aiming to strengthen U.S.-France relations and promote mutual understanding.

  • Intercultural Diplomat Program Application Deadline is Today: The California Global Education Project at CSULB is seeking international students who are enthusiastic and culturally aware to join the team as Intercultural Diplomats.
  • Ideal candidates will have a passion for sharing their culture, possess the ability to view global events from an international perspective, and communicate effectively with youth.
  • Applicants must be full-time international or exchange students at CSULB, in good academic standing, and located in the Long Beach area during Spring 2025.
