Mandatory Check-In for F-1 International Students

Students with a brand new CSULB form I-20 must complete the Online Immigration Check-In to have their Check-In hold removed and to meet F-1 reporting requirements with the Department of Homeland Security. Failure to complete the Check-In may result in being disenrolled from classes.

The online Check-in Self-Assessment will prompt you to confirm that your I-94 record is in F-1 status, watch videos, and answer review questions:

  • If you have not entered the US you will not be eligible to complete the check-in survey
  • If you have not verified that your I-94 record shows that you entered the US in F-1 status you will not be eligible to complete the check-in survey
  • If you have not updated your MyCSULB account with your current US residential address, even if it's a temporary address, you will not be eligible to complete the check-in survey

We no longer collect immigration documents as part of the immigration check-in process, but you are required to verify your documents are accurate and valid.

The clearance of the check-in hold typically takes 3 business days to remove, but during peak submission it may take 7 business days.
