As exciting as using AI can be, there are a number of ethical and sustainability issues that arise with its use. Much happens between the user's prompt and the AI response that greatly impacts people and resources.
In this session, we'll discuss some examples of this impact including data farms which affect water and electrical usage, and manufacturing processes for parts (graphics cards, microprocessors, etc) that keep AI running.
In addition, AI depends on artwork, code, documents, music, and images to train its models which impacts people and their intellectual property rights.
- AI is expensive, but are the profits from its use getting back to the originators of the content?
- How will the environmental impact affect us in the future?
These are some of the questions we can discuss together to reflect on our relationship with AI.
