Honors Tracks

University Honors has several tracks to appeal to a wide range of student interests and academic goals.

University Honors Plan I (minimum of 21 units)

This plan is designed for entering freshmen and consists of a minimum of 15 units (e.g. 5 courses) of lower- and upper-division Honors classes (General Education, Major and/or Elective courses).

In addition, students must complete 6 units of a culminating independent scholarly project (UHP 496 Research Participation and UHP 498 Senior Thesis/Project). If an Honors student registers for research and thesis credit through his/her major department, these units may be substituted for UHP 496 and UHP 498.

University Honors Plan II (minimum of 15 units)

This plan is designed for upper-division transfer students and continuing CSULB students and consists of a minimum of 9 units (e.g. 3 courses) of upper-division General Education, major, and/or elective Honors courses.

In addition, students must complete a culminating 6-unit independent scholarly project (UHP 496 Research Participation and UHP 498 Senior Thesis/Project). If an Honors student registers for research and thesis credit through his/her major department, these units may be substituted for UHP 496 and UHP 498.

University Honors, Engineering Plan I (minimum of 21 units)

This plan is designed for entering freshmen and consists of a minimum of 18 units (e.g. 9 courses) of lower- and upper-division Honors classes (General Education and Engineering).

University Honors, Engineering Plan II (minimum of 15 units)

This plan is designed for upper-division transfer students and continuing CSULB students and consists of a minimum of 12 units (e.g. 4 courses) of upper-division General Education and Engineering Honors courses.

University Honors, College of Business Plan I (minimum of 21 units)

University Honors, College of Business Plan II (minimum of 15 units)

University Honors, Global Emphasis Plan I (minimum of 21 units)

This plan is designed for entering first year students seeking a global learning experience. It consists of a minimum of 15 units of Honors courses (lower- and upper-division General Education, major, and/or electives, which must include at least one Global-designated Honors course); a culminating 6-unit senior thesis/project with a global emphasis (UHP 496, Research Participation, and UHP 498, Senior Thesis/Project); an approved study abroad (e.g. UHP 350) or equivalent experience (e.g. Global Studies Fellowship); and demonstration of 2nd year Language competency (0-16 units).

This plan is primarily designed for upper-division transfer students and continuing CSULB students seeking a global learning experience. It consists of a minimum of 9 units of upper-division Honors coursework (General Education, major, and/or elective courses, which must include at least one Global-designated Honors class) and a culminating 6-unit senior thesis/project with a global emphasis (UHP 496, Research Participation, and UHP 498, Senior Thesis/Project); an approved study abroad experience (e.g. UHP 350) or equivalent experience (e.g. Global Studies Fellowship), and demonstration of 2nd year Language competency (0-16 units).
