2023 Family and Friends Mixer

Published December 11, 2023

The 2023 Family and Friends Holiday Mixer took place on December 8 at the Anatol Center on campus. More than 50 people attended the event including 12 current METRIC scholars, 8 faculty, 9 alumni, and 25 family and friends of program.

The holiday mixer started with a welcome from METRIC personnel followed by a semester highlight by the METRIC director and alumni sharing how the scholarship program helped shape them into the people they are today and words of wisdom for the current scholars. The program also included a special recognition of two faculty mentors who have recently departed from the program - Dr. Paul Buonora (Chemistry and Biochemistry) and Dr. Lora Stevens (Earth Science).

Three games were played during the event:

  1. popular pairs.
  2. building a winter wonderland with spaghetti and marshmallows.
  3. passing the bells until the music stopped.

METRIC's Family and Friends Mixer serves many important purposes:

  • Introduce the family and friends to this community of support.
  • Educate the family and friends about the purpose of METRIC.
  • Allow METRIC students and mentors to further connect with each other and remind them of the importance of the community.
