Abstract

RNA binding proteins play an important role in gene expression by acting as regulators of alternative premRNA splicing. Recent findings highlight that RNA-binding proteins undergo numerous chemical modifications that can alter their chemical properties and, in turn, their interactions with RNA and the splicing machinery. Work in our laboratory focuses on understanding how these chemical modifications alter RNA binding protein function and, in turn, alternative pre-mRNA splicing patterns and gene expression.
