Social Media Policy

Purpose

In keeping with University Library’s mission to “foster an inclusive environment for our community to engage in curiosity, innovation, and creative activities”, we use social media in various forms. As communication technology changes, the library looks to reach new audiences, engage with the CSULB community more effectively, and enhance services by allowing greater feedback. Our social media activities reflect our vision of fostering inquiry-minded communities and advancing the public good.

Rules

All library social media activities shall follow CSULB’s:

Social Media Conduct and Comment Policy https://www.csulb.edu/social-media

Social Media Guidelines https://csulb.sharepoint.com/sites/Brand-Central/SitePages/Social-Media-Guidelines.aspx

Social Media Accessibility Best Practices https://www.csulb.edu/information-technology/accessible-technology/social-media-accessibility

Engagement

We encourage user questions and comments on library social media platforms. University Library's social media accounts are monitored regularly for user messages and questions during business hours Monday to Friday. Users who engage with the library's social media accounts while the library is closed, on holidays or during the evening or weekend hours should expect a reply during the next monitoring period. Questions requiring research instruction or support shall be routed to library faculty as appropriate.

Social media is not a public forum and is monitored and managed by library staff and faculty. University Library reserves the right to refrain from posting user submissions or comments or to remove or edit them at any time. We may delete content that violates copyright or privacy laws, or that is derogatory, ad hominem, libelous or commercial in nature.
