Cybersecurity Awareness Month Weekly Tips
DON'T GET TANGLED IN THE WEB OF DECEPTION
Safe Wi-Fi Tips
Image
Cyber criminals lurk in public Wi-Fi. Ward off the wicked with these tips:
- Avoid public Wi-Fi networks, like coffee shops and airports, unless you’re using a Virtual Private Network (VPN), as digital thieves can eavesdrop and steal both your data and login credentials. If you need to connect a laptop or tablet to the internet, use mobile phone data tethering if your plan allows it.
- While on campus, use eduroam.
- SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: The beachnet+ Wi-Fi network will be retired on January 1, 2026, and eduroam will become the only secure Wi-Fi network on campus for students and employees. If all your devices are not already automatically connecting to eduroam Wi-Fi, make the switch now by visiting www.csulb.edu/wifi on your device(s).
Device Protection Tips
Cyber criminals seek outdated, vulnerable devices:
- Be diligent about allowing your devices to be regularly updated with the latest software updates.
- Use antivirus software.
- Only download apps and files from trusted sources. Beware of “free” downloads that could contain malware.
