Cybersecurity Awareness Month Weekly Tips
GUARD YOUR DATA - PRIVACY & REPORTING
As Cybersecurity Awareness Month wraps up, let’s talk about protecting your data and privacy when sharing files and using campus apps.
Smart Document Sharing
You never know what lurks in the shadows, so protecting your data and documents is always top of mind. Consider these smart sharing practices in OneDrive and SharePoint, and most other equivalent document storage apps.
- Use “People you specify” instead of “Anyone with the link.”
- Set expiration dates and disable editing unless needed.
- Review shared files regularly and remove outdated access.
- Never share sensitive data without proper controls.
Secure Use of Campus Apps via SSO
- When in doubt about emailed links, access the same services by accessing them via your SSO/MyApps page.
- Use Microsoft Authenticator (not SMS or email) for MFA.
- Don’t approve unexpected MFA prompts.
- Log out when done, especially on shared devices, like lab computers.
Reporting
- If you suspect your account is compromised, report it immediately to alert@csulb.edu
- Use the Outlook Report button to report phishing and junk mail.
Quick reporting helps protect you and the entire campus community.
