CIO'S MESSAGE - July 29, 2026
A Message from the Vice President & CIO
Service Impacting Change to eduroam Wi-Fi
Campus Community,
Please be aware of an upcoming change to eduroam, the primary secure Wi-Fi network for CSULB students, faculty, and staff. The change will affect mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and other devices currently configured to connect to eduroam.
The Chancellor's Office has changed the digital certificate provider for all CSU campuses. As a result of this required change, some devices previously connected to the eduroam Wi-Fi network will need to be reconnected to regain access after the change takes effect. Beginning at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, some existing eduroam connections will need an update, and until affected devices are reconfigured, it may display an error message, disconnect from eduroam, or be unable to connect.
Who is affected?
Anyone who uses a personally owned or university-owned device previously connected to the eduroam Wi-Fi network that experiences eduroam Wi-Fi disconnection after the change. If your device continues to connect to eduroam normally after July 29, no action is required.
When does this change happen?
The change takes effect at 6 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
How do I reconnect a device to eduroam?
If you are on campus, after July 29, 2026, 6 a.m.:
- If your device isn't already connected via a mobile network, connect your device to BeachGuests from the list of available Wi-Fi networks and use Beach!26Dreams as the password.
- Then, launch the Wi-Fi onboarding tool, which will automatically detect the device type and guide you through a configuration process to reconnect it to eduroam.
If you are off campus, after July 29, 2026, 6 a.m.: While a device is connected to your off-campus Wi-Fi or mobile network, launch the Wi-Fi onboarding tool. The tool will automatically detect the device type and guide you through a configuration process. Once configured, your device will be ready to connect to the eduroam Wi-Fi network when you return to campus. At that time, select eduroam from the list of available networks on your device to complete the connection.
Recommendation if away from campus
Employees who are off campus are encouraged to complete the off-campus reconnection steps for each device after 6 a.m. on July 29 and before returning to campus for the Fall 2026 semester. Completing these steps while off campus can help ensure that your devices are ready to connect to eduroam when you return.
What is not affected by the change?
This change will not impact the BeachGuests, BeachResidents, or BeachIoT Wi-Fi networks, or computers physically connected to the campus network by ethernet cable.
Support for You
If you have difficulty reconnecting a device to eduroam or have questions about the change, please contact your Technical Coordinator.
