The Housing and Residential Life Student Assistant is an on-campus position based in the Housing and Residential Life office in the Hillside Commons. Under general supervision from the Office Manager of Housing, Student Assistants will perform a variety of customer service functions including operation of the telephone, receiving the public and answering general information questions about the residence halls, taking messages, replying to emails, assisting in housing tours, maintaining and updating necessary records, and contacting appropriate staff in an emergency.

Summer Conference Assistants (CA) is a live-in summer position that provides administrative, front desk, and customer service support for CSULB summer operations. The most important aspects of this position are customer service, attention to detail, the ability to work as a team, flexibility to work in an environment with changing schedules, deadlines, and a willingness to serve. Please review the position description below for information.

Summer Conference Assistant of Technology (CA-Tech) is a live-in summer position to assist Summer Conference guests and summer students with technical assistance. Our conference guests reside with us for short and/or long term overnight accommodations. Summer Conference Assistant of Technology play a critical role in providing excellent customer service, assuring our guests technology needs are meet while ensuring the safety and security of our housing community. Duties include but not limited to assist conference guest and summer students with technical support, program doors, and create content for Housing website and social media.

The Resident Assistant of Technology (RA-Tech) is a live-in position with such responsibilities as assisting residents connect to the university network, addressing violations of campus network policy, providing cable television troubleshooting as well as other technological and media related duties as assigned. Assist Housing with front desk responsibilities such as phone and email support.  Other duties include but are not limited to setup Audio Visual equipment for events, assist staff with tech equipment, program doors and badges, office related duties, and create content for Housing and Residential Life Staff.

Resident Assistant of Technology Position Description

Residential Life Coordinators (RLCs) are full-time, live-in professionals who oversees the daily operations and leadership of their assigned community, housing between 400 - 700 residents. They work collaboratively with their Area Coordinator to manage the following areas in their community: para-professional supervision and leadership (6-16 RAs), case management centering around student behavior, residential curriculum and community development, supporting the service centers, and various administrative components. Residential Life Coordinators also participate in departmental initiatives, and they serve on various committees and projects. Residential Life Coordinators assist in the overall development and implementation of the Residential Life and Student Housing programs.

The Area Coordinator (AC) position is a new full-time, live-in professional who manages the daily operations and leadership of their assigned area. Their  responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following areas: Serving as a lead to Residential Life Coordinators (RLCs), Resident Assistants (RAs), and Student Assistants (SAs); case coordination centering around student behavior, residential curriculum and community development; serving as a chair for a committee (e.g., student staff selection, training, RHA, operations, marketing/recognition/  assessment, etc.); and administrative components. The committees are collaborative in nature and require Area Coordinators to have strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. In addition, the Area Coordinators will be charged with implementing an intentional thematic community engagement plan that incorporates the learning outcomes and goals of the residential curriculum with the nuances and needs of the thematic community they lead. The Area Coordinators will assist the department in streamlining processes, creating manuals and training guides, and taking on special projects as needed. As with most new positions, this role may evolve with the changing needs of the department.

The Residence Hall Association (RHA) is the governing body for on-campus residents at CSULB. RHA consists of the executive board, the General Assembly, and the Community Governments (CGs). Together, they serve, program, and advocate for residents. RHA allows students to gain leadership experience as they plan events, lead initiatives, and develop communities within their residence halls. RHA also hosts development workshops for leadership, marketing, and social justice skills. Additionally, some members of RHA can join delegations to regional and national conferences. large scale programming and advocacy group for residents in housing. This group is advised by full-time and graduate staff, but is completely student lead and is an opportunity for residents to be involved in their community. RHA is part of a larger national organization, NACURH and our campus is within the PACURH region.

The National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) is a leadership-based honorary comprised of exemplary residential students who value recognition and service. NRHH is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a variety of initiatives and programs that support community service and leadership opportunities. NRHH provides a platform for recognition of the leaders on campus and in the three undergraduate Housing Villages (Beachside Village, Hillside Village, and Parkside Village). The NRHH supports and upholds the CSULB Student Housing Mission, Vision, and Values.

There are seven total positions available: President, Vice President of Leadership Development, Vice President of Programming, Vice President of Administration and Finance, Vice President Marketing and Outreach, National Communications Coordinator and the National Residence Hall Honorary Executive Chair. The RHA executive board and NRHH must be committed to creating a unique, memorable, and lively residential experience. As compensation for their efforts, the RHA e-board and NRHH is afforded a double room rate fee waiver while they are in office.

The Resident Assistant (RA) appointment is a unique leadership opportunity for undergraduate students to meaningfully contribute to the residential experience at California State University Long Beach. RAs contribute to the mission of the department and the University by serving as responsible peer educators, community builders, administrators, and leaders for residential students. RAs work collaboratively with departmental staff to develop residents as responsible, mindful, and inclusive community members. They do this through the support of a curricular approach to learning in the residence halls. RAs implement the residential curriculum by engaging students through various educational strategies and connecting residents to campus resources. Resident Assistants (RAs) live in their communities of responsibility and report directly to a Residential Life Coordinator (RLC) or Assistant Residential Life Coordinator (ARLC).

MARKETING AND SOCIAL MEDIA ASSISTANT OVERVIEW

The Marketing and Social Media Assistant (MSMA) is a student employee who supports the media production and communication efforts of CSULB Housing & Residential Life. The MSMA helps communicate the mission and educational priorities of the department through graphic design, video production, photography, and social media. The ideal candidate can begin working immediately and continue working through Spring 2022. The position pays $15.50 per hour.

Under the general supervision of the Residential Life Coordinator, graduate assistant, or Admin Support Coordinator, Desk Assistants will perform a variety of customer service functions including operation of the telephone, answering general information questions about the residence halls, taking messages, receiving and sorting mail, replying to emails, maintaining necessary records, contacting appropriate staff in an emergency, providing tours, processing work-orders and other duties as deemed necessary to be assigned.
