CSULB Department of Fashion Merchandising & Apparel Design

The area of Fashion Merchandising and Design offers courses which prepare students to compete in the global fashion industry. Students may concentrate their studies in either Fashion Merchandising or Fashion Design. Fashion Merchandising, which emphasizes the business area of the fashion industry such as store management and buying, visual display, product merchandising, product development, textiles and apparel manufacturing, sales representation and sales promotion. Fashion Design, which prepares students for careers in fashion design. Two fashion study abroad options are offered each year in New York and Paris. Students have the opportunity to work with fashion industry sponsors as interns during both their sophomore and senior years; hundreds of sponsors are available. After completing their internships, many students are hired as full-time employees at their sponsoring companies.
