CSULB Department of Communication Studies

Communication Studies is the study of the process of communicating effectively ranging from in-person conversations to speeches to mass media. This field includes areas of focus such as the ways in which people interpret information, the political culture, economic and social dimensions of speech and language. Being that this field of study is a humanistic and scientific field, research and application addresses both verbal and nonverbal communication. A bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies will prepare you for public speaking forums, effective communication in various settings and the ability to express thoughts and feelings professionally and thoroughly. Students who decide to further their knowledge in this field tend to gravitate towards receiving a Master’s degree in education, business, speech, public relations, politics or entertainment.
