Position: Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (Thermal-Fluids Engineering)

Effective Date: August 17, 2020 (Fall Semester)

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience


Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline
  • Degree award at the time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2020
  • Specialization in Thermal-Fluids Engineering, or a closely related area
  • Demonstrated commitment to be an effective teacher at the undergraduate and graduate level  
  • Demonstrated potential for successful research, scholarly and creative activities
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in or potential to teach courses in the area of Thermal-Fluids Engineering at both undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Demonstrated ability to develop courses, laboratories, and academic programs; update curriculum
  • Supervise students theses and projects
  • Active participation in academic governance
  • Record of academic publication and research activity in one or more of the emerging areas of conduction, convection, and radiation heat transfer
  • Demonstrated success of history of effort to obtain external funding for research
  • Commitment to actively support the success of underrepresented groups in STEM fields


  • Teach introductory and area of expertise-related subjects at undergraduate and graduate levels in, or related to, Thermal-Fluids, areas as well as undergraduate fundamental courses in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, as needed by the Department
  • Collaborate with colleagues in curriculum development and program assessment
  • Maintain an active research program involving students and leading to peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research
  • Actively pursue external support for research through grants and contracts
  • Participate in service to the department, college, university, profession, and community
