Academic Advising is a critical component of your success at California State University, Long Beach. Our faculty, staff and peer advisors are trained to help you make the most out of your undergraduate experience and meet your degree requirements. The university provides advising for university-wide requirements, for special student groups and for colleges and departments.

College and Department Advising

Already have a major? Know what you want to study at CSULB but need information about major requirements?  Your college and department advisors are eager to help.

University Center for Undergraduate Advising

The University Center for Undergraduate Advising can help you if you:

  • Need help choosing a major
  • Are undeclared and need help understanding General Education requirements
  • Need to enroll in a reinstatement workshop
  • Are on academic probation and need to enroll in a Strategies for Success workshop

Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement

Having difficulty finding time to fulfill the Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR), or successfully passing the Writing Proficiency Examination? A GWAR advisor can help.

Prerequisite Advising Support Services (PASS)

PASS provides tracking, advising, placement, intervention, and mentoring support to first-year students who are required to complete GE Composition I/II, ALI 145/150 and GE Math courses with support during their first year (30 units).  In addition, PASS monitors the Progress Reporting process for Composition and Mathematics with support classes during Fall and Spring semesters.
