Beach Days- Life is better when you live at the Beach!

About the Week:

Housing and Residential Life has planned activities, workshops, and events that will prepare you for your residential life experience and equip you with the tools for academic success. Consider this is your orientation to housing. 

How to Prepare for Beach Days?

Please be sure to check your email on a frequent basis to ensure that you are up-to-date with the most current information.  You can also visit our social media pages on Instagram and Facebook for announcements!  Sign the Beach Days Participation Waiver to participate in all the Beach Days activities. Please note that while Beach Days is a “choose your own adventure”, there are a couple of mandatory events and modules. 

Shuttles

For residents living at Beachside Village, we will have shuttles going to and from campus from Friday, August 18th- Monday, August 21st. Please check back in the coming weeks to check the shuttle schedule during Beach Days.  

Outside of Shuttles to the Bookstore Bash, shuttles during Beach Days are only for Beachside residents.  You will be getting a Beachside shuttle sticker for your ID card at move-in that you will use for beachside shuttles during Beach Days and throughout the year. 

Mandatory ATOD Module: 

All residents will be sent an email to their CSULB email with a link to begin their Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs module. This module is mandatory and failure to complete it by the assigned deadline will result in follow-up via the student conduct process.  

9:00am-6:30pm: *The dining halls will have light refreshments for students and their guests who are moving in during this time.  

8:00am-5:00pm: Move-in Day for our Thematic Communities* and other designated areas so they can get settled and ready for an evening of activities. Report to your assigned building to check in.  

*This includes Honors, LGBTQIA House, Transfer community, Black & Pan-African Scholars House, First Gen House, and International House. 

8:00 am-5:00 pm: Bookstore Promotions – Visit the bookstore for your CSULB swag, school supplies, and other essentials. They will have some great discounts during Beach Days! 

10:00 am- 4:00pm: After you move-in drop in at the Annual Beach Bash @ the University Bookstore. You will have an opportunity to meet campus partners, win prizes, pick up your books, and much more! 

7:00pm-7:30pm: Thematic Community Welcome Presentation in each Thematic Community common space. 

7:30pm-10:30pm: Welcome Social Events – Come meet your neighbors and get to know your Resident Assistants. RAs will promote welcome events within the halls, so be on the lookout for specifics for your building/floor area!  

9:00am-6:30pm: *The dining halls will have light refreshments for students and their guests who are moving in during this time.  

8:00am-5:00pm: Move-in Day for remaining communities – report to your assigned building to check in. 

10:00 am- 4:00pm: After you move-in drop in at the Annual Beach Bash @ the University Bookstore. You will have an opportunity to meet campus partners, win prizes, pick up your books, and much more! 

7:00pm-11:00pm: Come out and meet other members of our residential community at our Speed Friending Event, Trivia Game Night, and Paint Along Night occurring simultaneously. More information can be found posted within your community. Please check your student email for any necessary RSVP information.  

*Note: Shuttles will not start until night time 

9:30am-7:30pm Continuous meal service to be offered at each village dining hall. Residents can pick up their “to-go tokens” at their respective dining hall  

9:00 am-10:00 am: Morning Wellness at the Los Alamitos Lawn and Beachside MPR. More information to come! 

11:30am-1:30pm: Major Mingle Lunch Come out to your dining hall and grab a color-coded name tag to mix and mingle with other students from your academic college over lunch! 

2:00pm-2:30pm: Community Activities Board Information Sessions – If you are interested in getting involved in housing and offering fun events for other students, come learn more about joining our Community Activities Boards (CAB)! There is one CAB per residential village with several board positions available.  

3:00pm-4:00pm: Beach Basics Bingo – Come play bingo and learn more about our Beach Community here on campus including other departments, resources, and some college 101 tips! Beach Basics Bingo will be hosted in each residential community.  

4:30pm-6:00pm: Village Program – more information to come! 

7:00pm-11:00pm: Residence Hall Association presents a night at the pyramid! The RHA invites you to their signature welcome event.  Join them for a night full of casino games, dance, live DJ, food and opportunity drawings.  Every resident will be given tokens to play casino games for a chance to win more tickets for the opportunity drawing! Don’t want to play casino games? That’s okay! You can use your free tokens to directly enter the opportunity drawing for a chance to win amusement park tickets, gift baskets, and more! Everyone gets a chance to win! 

7:30am-7:30pm: All three dining halls open 9:30am-7:30pm continuous dining *Beachside Dining hall will be open 6:30am-7:30pm 

 
10:00 am-4:00 pm: Mandatory Zero Shades of Gray performance at The Carpenter Center - We are all responsible for our communities’ safety and for looking out for one another. This Bystander Intervention program is facilitated by campus partners to raise awareness, help prevent assault, and become a resource for those in need. This is a mandatory event and attendance will be taken. Check in with your RA to see which session you will be attending. 

1:00pm-4:30pm: Self-Guided Campus Tours-Don’t know where with a provided list of things are on-campus. Participate in a to explore, take the time to explore campus scavenger hunt! You will have an opportunity to meet new people and learn about the CSULB campus. 

7:00pm-10:00pm: Mandatory Community Meeting for all residents new or returning! Come to your welcome community meeting to learn more about what it means to live in housing, meet your neighbors, and begin your roommate and suitemate agreements. Look for more information from your RA on where to meet. Attendance will be taken
