Transfer Frequently Asked Questions

As a Transfer student, we understand you will have several questions before your first semester. While we will answer many of them at your Orientation Workshop, we have compiled the questions we get asked most often to help your transition.

MyCSULB is a self-service, online portal that all students can access. You can view your personal information (e.g., phone number, address, emergency contact info), academic record (e.g., test scores & grades), finances (e.g., outstanding balances) and much, much more! Login to MyCSULB via the university's Single Sign On (SSO), then click on the MyCSULB icon. If you have any issues accessing Single Sign On or MyCSULB, contact the Technology Help Desk at 562.985.4959 or helpdesk@csulb.edu.

Access your CSULB email account by logging in to Single Sign On (SSO) using your CSULB credentials and password. Then locate and click on the Outlook chiclet.

SOAR Confirmation will be emailed within 2-3 business days after making your reservation.

Didn't receive a SOAR Confirmation? Please check both your personal email ANDCSULB email accounts. Check your Junk Folder as sometimes it is accidentally re-directed to this folder.

An additional reminder will be sent to your CSULB email account the month of your workshop and approximately 2 days prior to your scheduled SOAR date with essential details including parking information and check-in location.

SOAR for Transfer Students is a two-part experience on two separate dates: one for your Orientation Workshop date and the other for your Registration date.  When making your reservation you'll see these dates are automatically linked.

  1. First you will attend an in-person or virtual Orientation Workshop where you'll learn more about campus life and resources to support your transition to life at Long Beach State.
  2. The next business day you will have access to register for your classes starting at 9 am.

NOTE: The academic advising process is coordinated by your assigned college advising center or department faculty advisor through a series of emails that provide details, instructions, and deadlines.  Please check your student email often and review the communications for details regarding how and when you'll receive academic advising.

Contact SOAR for assistance with making changes to your dates – call 562.985.5515 (recommended for fastest service) or submit a SOAR Support Ticket.

If you miss your SOAR date please contact us within 24 hours to reschedule.

As a Transfer Student, your SOAR Orientation workshop will take place from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM on-campus. Limited virtual sessions are available to Transfer Students and take place at various times. Please ensure you are selecting the date that works best for you when you make your reservation in your SSO.

SOAR workshops are for registered student-participants only. Parents/family members/supporters are encouraged participate in Parent & Family Orientation, which is offered each on-campus SOAR Workshop date. Visit Parent & Family Programs to learn about this program along with year-round programming and the Beach Family Newsletter, which are designed to encourage family engagement and strengthen partnerships in student success.

Exception to this policy is for students requiring additional assistance. Please complete the SOAR-BMAC Disability-Related Accommodations Request Form to make any necessary arrangements at least five (5) business days prior to your scheduled workshop.

The Bob Murphy Access Center (BMAC) provides support to students with disabilities through accommodations and services, including but not limited to sign language interpreters, real-time captioners, assistive technology, and alternative media.

Once you have submitted this online form, BMAC will reach out to discuss the confidential registration process.

Please note guests are not allowed to attend orientation with their student unless they have been approved by BMAC.

If you have additional questions about disability-related accommodations for SOAR or during the school year, please visit the BMAC website, call 562.985.5401, or email BMAC@csulb.edu.
