First-Time/First-Year SOAR

Welcome to the Beach Family! Student Orientation, Advising & Registration (SOAR) provides incoming students with a set of shared experiences and information designed to set the tone for student achievement, personal growth and meaningful connections. Aligning with the university mission, a commitment to providing highly valued undergraduate opportunities is at the core of SOAR. The information below is for students who are completely new to college — we refer to this population as First-Time/First-Year students. 

First-Time/First-Year SOAR Experience

As a First-Time/First-Year Student your SOAR Experience will include:

• A one-day workshop where your orientation, advising & registration will all take place in-person: 
  Orientation where you’ll learn more about campus life and resources to support your transition to life at Cal State Long Beach. 
  Advising & Registration where you will meet with an advisor and select your classes for Fall 2026.
• Parking on campus
• Beach swag and lunch
• Campus tour, resource fair and giveaways
• Breakout sessions to learn more about campus resources, services and opportunities to join campus life
• Community and connection with fellow students  

SOAR takes place from 8:30am to 5:00pm. Please ensure your travel plans allow you to stay with us all day. 

First-Time/First-Year SOAR Workshop Dates

June 10 to June 24 and July 29 to August 12

Important: You must first submit yhttps://sso.csulb.eduour CSULB Admitted Student Reply and Enrollment Deposit by Thursday, May 1, OR the deadline determined by CSULB Admissions. After submitting these two items, an email will be sent that provides an introduction to introduces the SOAR Experience, workshop dates, and upcoming deadlines. Workshop dates available to you are based on your declared major and scheduled by your designated advising center. The earlier you attend SOAR, the better selection of classes you'll have from which to choose.
