Dental Hygiene Services Available at CSULB Student Health Services

Through the partnership between CSULB Student Health Services and the West Coast University Dental Hygiene Program, dental hygiene students will provide preventive and therapeutic oral health services under the supervision of licensed dental hygiene faculty and collaborating dentists.

No-Cost Services

All dental hygiene services provided through this program are offered at no cost to CSULB students.

Appointment Length

Appointments are available Wednesdays from 9AM-2:30PM, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes in length.

Please arrive at the clinic 10 minutes prior to your appointment to fill out necessary paperwork before your appointment.

Services Available

Depending on your individual needs, more than one appointment may be recommended.

Session 1: Assessment

  • Oral health assessment and screening
  • Risk assessments (caries, periodontal disease, and oral pathology)
  • Dental radiographs (X-rays)
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Periodontal (gum health) evaluation

Session 2: Treatment

  • Dental prophylaxis (preventive cleaning)
  • Pit and fissure sealants
  • Fluoride therapy

During both sessions, we also cover: 

  • Oral hygiene education and personalized home-care recommendations
  • Nutritional counseling related to oral and overall health
  • Smoking and tobacco cessation counseling 

Additional Care and Referrals

Some procedures may require additional time, or multiple treatment visits. Following the initial assessment at CSULB Student Health Services, you may be referred to the West Coast University Dental Hygiene Clinic in Anaheim to complete special treatments such as scaling and root planing. 

If treatment needs are identified that are beyond the scope of dental hygiene services, you may be referred to a community dental clinic or dental provider for further evaluation and treatment.
