Our current understanding of the evolution of the universe is based on converging results from observations of stars, clusters of galaxies, and the cosmic microwave background. For example, each of these three fields provides an independent measure of the age of the universe using physical processes occurring on vastly different scales. My interests include observational studies of the late stages of stellar evolution, the stellar composition of galaxies, and the intracluster medium in rich clusters of galaxies.
