Parking and Transportation Services Update

Parking and Transportation Services would like to update you on the following changes that will take place on campus:
  • U-PASS extension and MTA/OCTA pass procedure changes
  • Lot 17 pay-by-space parking changes
  • Lot 18 addition of student parking
Refer to the CSULB parking website for lot locations.

U-PASS Extension and Transit Fare Procedure Changes

The U-PASS program will continue uninterrupted, year-round service for the next three years. To ride Long Beach Transit, simply swipe your valid CSULB ID Card through the fare box on any Long Beach Transit bus for free 7 days a week, 365 days a year! Plan your trip by visiting the Long Beach Transit website or call (562) 591-2301.

Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) and Orange County Transit Authority (OCTA) still require fare purchase. Effective June 30, 2012, the University Bookstore will no longer provide or sell any form of transit fare. However, MTA riders can conveniently purchase or replenish a TAP card online or in person at one of the many TAP sales locations listed on the website. Plan your trip online or call (800) COMMUTE (800-266-6883). OCTA offers many choices to purchase your pass either online or at a location listed on the website. You can also call (714) 636-RIDE (636-7433).

If you are looking for another commute option in addition to public transit, try Zimride, CSULB’s exclusive social network for ridesharing. It is easy to log in with your campus ID and Beach password to find other CSULB faculty or staff who match your commute and schedule needs.

Lot 17 Pay-by-Space Changes

Parking and Transportation Services recently installed 3 “Pay-by-Space” stations in Lot 17 (in front of Brotman Hall) that service 45 short-term parking spaces. These machines accept cash (through the summer only), debit, credit and Beach Club cards. The rate structure is as follows:

One Hour: $2.00
Two Hours: $5.00
Three Hours: $10.00
Four Hours: $15.00

There are also ten single-space, one-hour maximum time limit parking meters that take coins only. These rate structures are designed to discourage long-term parking in metered and pay-by-space spots. The intent is to have convenient parking available for those who need access to Brotman Hall on a short-term basis.

Lot 18 Modified to Include General Parking

Lot 18 will be modified this summer to include 134 general parking spaces for individuals with a valid CSULB parking permit or those purchasing a daily permit, including students. Eighty-four spaces in Lot 18 will remain employee parking only and are designated by a white parking block or curb stenciled with EMPLOYEE PERMIT. A dispenser will be active at all times for individuals to purchase a daily permit. Lot 18 is conveniently located near the Student Health Center and Brotman Hall and will enable people to park closer to the center of campus. Refer to the CSULB parking website for lot locations.
