January Employee of the Month: Sal Alaniz

Congratulations to Beach Building Services staff member Sal Alaniz, January’s employee of the month. A member of the Grounds team for 8 plus years, Sal started on the upper campus grounds crew and was promoted to parking crew lead. Described by co-workers as having a positive “can do” attitude, Sal is often called upon to support improvement projects, events and department operations. Recent projects included the re-landscaping along the track before graduation and restoring landscape along Beach Drive in Parking lot G-1.

January's Rideshare Winners

Congratulations to January rideshare winners Bonnie Gasior, Mario Camantigue, Eva Dotti and Alex Hazlewood. Employees who use sustainable modes of travel to campus are eligible to participate in a monthly drawing! Each month, four rideshare members are selected and rewarded with $50 in Beach Bucks. More information can be found at Employee Rideshare Incentives. Go Green, Go Beach!

Best of the Beach

Recognize and celebrate the performance, leadership, service, and accomplishments of others. Visit the Staff Recognition webpages to submit Best of the Beach nominations regularly throughout the year.

Whether they be small or large displays of a staff member’s exemplification of CSULB’s mission, values, and priorities, take a few moments each month to express your appreciation of your fellow state-side staff members by nominating them for Best of the Beach.

CSULB Employee and Faculty Vanpool

Sustainable Transportation has collaborated with Enterprise to produce a convenient rideshare option to upgrade your commute. Commute with Enterprise connects coworkers who live near each other and then provides a safe, reliable vehicle for their daily drive to campus. Getting to CSULB has never been easier!

Vanpooling to CSULB adds up:

  • Save up to $6,000/year
  • Reduce carbon emissions by 12,500 lbs./year
  • Get back valuable free time
  • Reduce the wear and tear on your personal vehicle
  • Reduce the stress of commuting
  • Enjoy a dedicated parking space

We’re really excited about this benefit, and we think you will be too. You can learn more at CSULB Vanpool and stay tuned for upcoming Commuter Connection sessions. For additional questions, please contact the campus Sustainable Transportation Coordinator at or call 5-7433
