Position: Assistant Professor of Theatre (Design)
Effective Date: August 17, 2020 (Fall Semester)
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
Required Qualifications:
- M.F.A. degree in Design
- Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the degree by August 1, 2020
- Demonstrated ability for teaching design courses at the college level in one of the following:
scenic design, costume design, projection design or live entertainment design - Experience of applying experiential learning to an innovative pedagogical practice
- Demonstrated ability for developing artistic designs through collaboration with faculty and students, through drawing, rendering or use of contemporary digital media
- Experience as a professional designer at the regional level in theatre, opera, TV/film or live entertainment
- Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience as a professional designer in theatre, opera, TV/film, or live entertainment at a regional or national level
- Demonstrated expertise in more than one of the following areas: scenic design, costume design, projection/video design and live entertainment design
- Demonstrated ability for curriculum development
- Experience as a university program coordinator
- Experience with student mentoring
Duties:

Teach courses in design as needed by the Department. Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.
- Develop curriculum in design in collaboration with other faculty and staff
- Maintain an active professional career as a designer
- Engage and maintain an ongoing commitment to research, scholarly and creative activities leading to publications, presentations and/or performances
- Serve as a mentor for students working on mainstage productions
- Supervision student-run theatre productions
- Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community

We offer three undergraduate programs: a B.A. in Technical Theatre/Design, a B.F.A. in Acting, and a general B.A. in Theatre. We produce eight mainstage shows in our Cal Rep season – with a mix of devised pieces, contemporary plays and classics. As a department and a theatre company we are committed to developing the artistic voices and visions of a diverse range of students and artists. Admissions is currently closed for the MFA in Theatre Arts with an Option in Scenic, Lighting or Costume Design through at least the academic year 2021/2022. We are currently re-envisioning the future of the MFA program.
