About the Center
Supported by the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (CNSM), all students within CNSM are automatically members of the James L. Jensen Student Access to Science and Mathematics (SAS) Center and may take advantage of all its programs, resources, and services provided, which are designed to encourage and support CNSM students as they prepare for science- and mathematics-based careers.
Students who are enrolled in any Natural Science or Mathematics course may use the tutoring services and attend scheduled workshops. All CSU Long Beach students interested in a career in health professions are encouraged to visit the Health Professions Advising Office.
Additionally, we are dedicated to educating current and prospective students, family members, counselors, and administrators about the assortment of student support services and career development resources offered at California State University Long Beach, which are designed to encourage overall student participation and success at the university.
Support Services
The Jensen SAS Center is committed to meeting students' needs by offering peer tutoring and mentoring, academic and career workshops, and resources designed to encourage student success. We offer the following services to all students in CNSM.
Peer Tutoring

Free drop-in tutoring is available for all students in CNSM courses. Tutoring is available both on campus and online via Zoom.
Tutoring is conducted by student peers who have already successfully completed the coursework in a prior semester.
Health Professions Advising

The Health Professions Advising Office (HPAO) provides a wide range of advising and support services designed to meet the needs of CSULB students as they navigate through the often-complex process of preparation and application to professional school.
HPAO serves CSULB students interested in pursuing graduate-level health professions including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, optometry, veterinary, and physician assistant.
Student Research Programs Support

The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics is home to a number of undergraduate research training programs funded through the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). Each program offers participating students extensive access to faculty and research labs, and many provide a stipend.
