Dean's Message 2026
Dean’s Message
It is my great honor to welcome you to the 2026 BEACH Women in Engineering Conference – our sixth annual event! This year’s theme, “Waves of Innovation,” captures both the momentum and the magnitude of change shaping our profession. Like the ocean, innovation moves in powerful currents – reshaping industries, redefining possibilities, and opening opportunities for those bold enough to lead.
This year, we explore how artificial intelligence is becoming embedded across every discipline, and how quantum computing stands on the horizon as a revolutionary leap to breakthroughs in multiple fields. At the same time, systems thinking guides us in interdisciplinary challenges, and autonomous vehicle technology continues their march into the future. To all attendees - I encourage you to browse all of the conference topics and to engage fully – ask bold questions, form new contacts, and learn from those who have blazed a path before you. To our faculty and professionals – thank you for mentoring, innovating, and inspiring the next generation.
We are especially honored to welcome our keynote speaker, Dr. Anita Sengupta, whose work is at the intersection of aerospace, advanced energy, and entrepreneurial innovation. I would also like to recognize and thank our conference chair, Geri Madera, a recently retired Vice President of Engineering at Northrop Grumman. Both women will share their wisdome and undoubtedly leave their mark on this year’s event. Finally, this event would not be possible without the support staff, volunteers, or sponsors – it takes a village, and I’m so grateful for our shared mission.
I’m looking forward to seeing you at the conference – may we all ride the Waves of Innovation into the future!
GO BEACH!
Dr. Jinny Rhee Dean, College of Engineering
