Reminder: CSU Benefits Open Enrollment Period September 10-October 5

This is your once-per-year opportunity to make changes to your current benefits elections. This includes adding or deleting dependents, enrolling, changing, cancelling your health, dental, Flexcash, Health Care Reimbursement Account (HCRA), Dependent Care Reimbursement Account (DCRA) or other voluntary insurance plans for yourself and your eligible dependents. All changes made during open enrollment will be effective on January 1, 2019. Due to CalPERS and State restrictions, open enrollment requests will not be accepted after 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 5th, 2018.

Several important items to keep in mind during this open enrollment period:

  • Closely review the 2019 employee contribution rates, as some plan rates have increased, while others have decreased. Rates that have increased substantially include PERS Care and Anthem Blue Cross Traditional HMO. The 2019 rates are contained on pages 8 and 9 of the Open Enrollment booklet.
  • PERS Select PPO plan has adopted a value-based insurance design starting in 2019. The co-payments for primary care, specialists and urgent care will change. In addition, the deductibles have increased, but you will have the opportunity to earn credits toward your deductible through completion of specific items. Other plan changes have also been made to PERS Select PPO. If you are enrolled in this plan, or considering enrollment, please be sure to review the changes.
  • Delta Dental PPO has enhanced their plan offerings. When you visit a PPO dentist, your diagnostic and preventative services, such as cleanings, will not count against your annual maximum amount. This benefit does not apply if you visit a Delta Dental Premier or non-Delta Dental dentist.
  • Delta Dental PPO is also offering the SmileWay program, enhancing coverage for higher risk employees. Employees with certain qualifying diagnosed medical conditions (diabetes, heart disease, HIV/AIDS, rheumatoid arthritis, or stroke) are offered expanded coverage, such as one periodontal scaling and root planing procedure per quadrant per calendar year covered at 100%.
  • As a reminder, HCRA/DCRA participants must re-enroll in these reimbursement account plans each year.

Introducing Procurement Compliance Review (PCR)

In February 2017, in partnership with the Division of Information Technology (DoIT), the Office of Procurement & Contractual Services began a proof of concept pilot project, the Procurement Compliance Review (PCR). The goal for the PCR is to ensure that our campus meets electronic technology standards set forth by the California State University (CSU) system and the campus. The PCR includes the following activities and processes when buying information technology:

  • Accessibility: evaluate the item to be purchased for compliance with federal accessibility requirements. For more information, please visit CSULB Accessible Technology website.
  • Security: evaluate the item to be purchased for compliance with established Federal, State, and CSU information security regulations and standards, refer to the CSULB Information Classification Standard.
  • Technology coordination: review item to be purchased for compatibility with campus existing technology ecosystem and standards, refer to the Hardware Standard and Software Standard.

As the PCR process evolves and becomes more automated, additional information and updates will be provided in the coming months.  For more information regarding the procurement compliance review, please contact: Laurie Angel at ext. 5-8929.

Be sure to visit us on Tech Day, at our “Before you Buy Technology…” booth November 7th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Central Quad.
