Position: Assistant Professor of Sociology (Latinx Communities)

Effective Date: August 17, 2021 (Fall Semester)

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience 

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Sociology or a related field at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2021
  • Specialization in the area of Sociology of Latinx Communities
  • Demonstrated potential for successful college-level teaching
  • Demonstrated potential for continued development of research, scholarly, and creative activities in the sociology of Latinx communities
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of scholarship in the Sociology of Latinx Communities.
  • Successful teaching in one or more of the following topics:  Latinx Communities, Gender, Family, Youth, Race, Criminalization, Migration, Global Issues, Qualitative Research Methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor students and supervise research.
  • Evidence of service in an academic institution or the community

Duties:​

  • Teach courses such as Latina/os in the U.S., Central American and Caribbean Communities, Sociology of Gender, Sociology of the Family, Racism, Power and Inequality, Sociology of Migration and Immigration, International Social Conflict, Youth, Policing and Justice, Critical Criminology, Qualitative Research Methods. Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.
  • Develop potential courses within the candidate's area(s) of expertise
  • Engage in ongoing research, scholarly and creative activities
  • Assist in mentoring students; supervise student research
  • Develop curricula to meet the needs of a diverse student body
  • Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community
