Common Human Resources System (CHRS)
The Common Human Resources System (CHRS) is a single HR system for all 22 campuses and the Chancellor's Office in the California State University system. All campuses in the CSU will move off their current PeopleSoft HR system and move into the common system.
As part of Wave 5, CSULB is partnering with the Chancellor’s Office CHRS Program Team and our own campus Human Resources Information Technology team as we prepare for this transition. During the implementation of CHRS user functionality will change. Part of this change is upgrading our system to PeopleSoft (9.2) and although we will move away from much of our custom functionality, we will add some custom modifications that will allow the software to meet the needs of the larger California State University system.
There are 5 key benefits that the campus will achieve by moving to CHRS:
- All 22 campuses and the Chancellor’s Office will now operate from one common system. CHRS creates a uniform HR experience across all CSU campuses. This ensures consistent practices and simplifies systemwide reporting.
- CHRS is efficient and cost-effective. The system consolidates multiple HR functions into one platform, reducing redundancy and manual processes across the system.
- CHRS allows campuses to perform HR processes in a common way, creating uniformity across the system.
- CHRS ensures data security by maintaining strict privacy protocols and centralizing data management.
- Employees will have increased access to HR services and information, making it easier to manage personal and employment data.
CSULB is part of the Wave 5 campuses implementing CHRS. We are currently scheduled for our system to go-live in March of 2027.
Our key milestones include:
- Pre-Implementation/Pre-Pass (Sept 2025): Campus activities to prepare for the system build and initial testing.
- Pass A(April 2026): First round of campus-specific testing and the completion of build-related activities and unit testing.
- Pass B (Aug 2026): Systemwide testing with the other campuses in Wave 5 – CSUN, San Jose, and the Chancellor’s Office.
- Pass C (Jan 2027): First full end-to-end campus testing involving end-users and validating all CHRS functionality.
- Move to Production Prep (Jan 2027): Final campus validation ahead of launch.
- Go Live (Mar 2027): We will begin using the system for all of our Human Resources-related tasks.
CHRS will impact Human Resources processes and procedures for student employees, staff, and faculty. The system manages data such as budgeted positions, employment, job, and personal data. Enhancing the system will change aspects of self-service, time and absence management, recruitment, benefits, temporary academic employment, and more.
As we move closer to March 2027, the campus CHRS implementation team will provide training and other resources to the campus community.
We go live on March 22, 2027.
Our campus is in the second to last wave of CHRS implementation. The final wave (Wave 6) will take place in May of 2027.
