Experiencing Science Through Scribbling Robots and Spinning Tops

On October 4, 2025, students and faculty from the Science Education Department joined their peers from other departments in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics on for Science LIVE!—a public celebration of science and math.

Families from across Southern California came to learn and explore. Student volunteers from the Science Learning Center guided visitors through a variety of hands-on activities, while facilitators from the NSF-funded Mobile Making program helped kids and families design, build, test, and refine scribbling robots and simple spinning tops (which, as it turns out, aren’t so simple after all!).
