JPR Scholarships
The Department of Journalism & Public Relations awards numerous scholarships annually, ranging from $250 to $5,000. Journalism and public relations majors and minors can apply for the scholarships described below through Beach Scholarships. Scholarship winners are announced at JPR Day each April.
Phyllis Jackson Memorial Endowed Scholarship: $5,000
- Honors the memory of CSULB journalism professor Phyllis Jackson. Given to a junior or senior continuing JPR student for outstanding work in the field.
Michael and Julie Anastasi Scholarship: $2,500
- Given by the Anastasis to support a journalism major returning to college or transferring from community college. Recipient must have student newspaper or extra-curricular student media production experience and a minimum of GPA 3.0.
Bill Pearl Community Journalism Scholarship: $1,500
- Awarded to a journalism major with 2.5 or better GPA with a strong demonstrated interest in community journalism and/or financial need.
Journalism Special Scholarship—In Memory of Kim Christensen: $1,000
- Given to an outstanding continuing journalism major.
Edison Institute Endowed Scholarship: $700
- Given to a junior or senior continuing JPR student for outstanding work in the field.
Journalism Endowed Scholarship: $600
- Given to an outstanding continuing JPR student.
Gail Barfield Savitz Endowed Scholarship: $600
- Given to a continuing sophomore, junior or senior JPR major who has distinguished him- or herself in the field and related coursework.
Beach Charities Scholarship: $500
- Given to an outstanding junior or senior JPR student.
