FCS Child Care Project

The project will include renovation and new construction to upgrade and expand the child care and teaching facilities for the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS). This will allow for the growth of the Child and Family program on campus.  The project will yield a significant increase in the quantity and range of childcare services available for children of students attending college as well as increase the number of graduates whose training will, in turn, allow them to improve the quality and availability of childcare programs throughout California.

Construction Update:
Renovation and expansion of the FCS Child Care facility began in Fall 2023. During excavation and earthwork, previously unknown storm drain, communications, and power lines were discovered below the footprint of the new addition. These utilities are vital to both the university and the adjacent VA Medical Center and, after an assessment, it was determined that most of these lines cannot be rerouted. Consequently, a redesign of the foundation for the expansion is underway, along with related permitting. These construction delays will push the opening of the Center to the 2025-2026 Academic Year, with an exact opening date being announced in summer 2024.
