We are very pleased to welcome Tim Scott, President and CEO of Biocom, and Dan Gober, Executive Director of Biocom's Greater Los Angeles office, to CNSM on Friday, October 9 for a special day of conversations with our students and faculty.
Biocom is a leading life sciences industry association connecting companies, research institutions, universities, and other organizations across California's life sciences ecosystem.
Agenda
Both sessions will take place in the Hall of Science (HSCI). Specific room locations will be shared with attendees once participation is confirmed.

For Students
For students, this opportunity is for disciplines across CNSM - not only those in majors traditionally associated with the life sciences. Their visit offers students a unique opportunity to hear directly from industry leaders about the growth of the life sciences sector in California and Greater Los Angeles - and the many ways students with science and quantitative backgrounds can be part of it.
Today's life sciences industry brings together biology and biochemistry/chemistry with mathematics, statistics, physics, data science, and earth and environmental sciences. For example, mathematicians and statisticians contribute to clinical trials, biostatistics, modeling, and analysis of large biological datasets; physicists contribute to imaging, instrumentation, medical technologies, and biophysics; and earth and environmental scientists bring expertise relevant to environmental health, sustainability, water quality, and biotechnology. Whatever your CNSM major, there may be career paths in this rapidly evolving sector that you have not yet considered.
We strongly encourage student to attend both sessions (9:30am and 2:00pm) if your schedules allow. The two sessions are designed to complement one another: the morning seminar will help you understand the landscape, and the afternoon conversation will give you an opportunity to think about where you might fit within it.
Whether you already see the life sciences as part of your future or have never considered the field before, we hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to learn about an important and growing part of Southern California's scientific and technology community.
For Faculty
For faculty, their visit will center on conversations about the life sciences industry in California and the Greater Los Angeles region, workforce development, and opportunities for faculty-industry partnerships. The discussions will also highlight the breadth of career opportunities in the life sciences sector for students across CNSM disciplines.
