Declare Major or Minor
Undergraduate Students
Current and continuing undergraduate students at CSULB who are interested in changing or declaring their major to one within the College of the Arts (COTA) should review the Major-Specific Declaration Requirements (MSDRs) before submitting a request.
Please note:
- Most COTA majors require a minimum overall GPA of 2.5, along with additional prerequisites outlined in the MSDRs.
- The Cinematic Arts major requires a minimum overall GPA of 2.75, in addition to other MSDR-listed prerequisites.
- Dance and Music majors: Students must audition in order to change into any dance or music major.
- Visit the Dance audition page for details.
- Visit the Music audition page for information.
Once your change of major request is submitted, a College of the Arts academic advisor will review it and reach out to you directly via your CSULB student email.

Current and continuing undergraduate students at CSULB who wish to declare a minor within the College of the Arts (COTA) should first explore our minors in Art, Dance, Design, Music, and Theatre Arts before submitting their request.
University policy requires that minors be completed alongside a bachelor’s degree and within the same anticipated graduation timeframe as the major. Before declaring a COTA minor, students must meet the following criteria:
- Successfully complete their first semester at CSULB with a minimum 2.5 GPA
- Be fully declared in a major (no pre-major standing)
- Demonstrate the ability to complete the minor without delaying graduation
Please consult the specific minor program pages for additional requirements.
