The minor in Geography provides a broad introduction to geographic concepts and tools, with the opportunity to explore specific topics in more depth in upper division courses. The minor in Geographic Information Science (GISci) is designed for students who are looking to complement their major studies in preparation for professional careers in the rapidly expanding sectors dealing with geospatial technology and mapping sciences.
The Geography minor requires a minimum of 18 UNITS, as follows:
Required Core (9 UNITS): GEOG 100 or 120 or 160; GEOG 130 or 140; GEOG 280 or 380
Upper Division Minimum Requirements (9 UNITS selected with advisor): at least one Geography course at the 400 level (3-4 UNITS); at least two other Geography courses at the 300 or 400 level (6-8 UNITS)
The GISci minor requires a minimum of 21 UNITS, as follows:
Required Core (9 UNITS): 3-unit course in statistics which can be satisfied by GEOG 200, STAT 108, PSY 210, BIOL 260, HDEV 250, SOC 250 or another related statistics course per advisor consent; GEOG 280 and GEOG 380.
