Allocation for CRRSAA (HEERF II and III) for Academic Affairs

Academic Affairs is approved for $33M in HEERF II and III funding. This support covers technology for university-wide classrooms led by Academic Technology Services (ATS), professional development, academic-unit support, and college-specific support, and lost revenue.

The funding is approved for Summer 2021, Fall 2021, and Spring 2022. Colleges, and other academic units, developed proposals for HEERF funding with input from the faculty, staff, and students. The proposals included activities in the following categories: Health & Safety, Technology in the Classroom, Lost Revenue, Staff Development, Student Development, Faculty Professional Development including Champions and Leaders, Support for Department Chairs, Restarting RSCA, and Grading Support.

Funding for Colleges

Each college has been funded to support faculty who are adversely impacted due to COVID to restart RSCA. This support could include expenses such as student assistants, research materials and supplies, equipment, and travel to resume RSCA activities. Funding is also provided to support Department Chairs in all colleges for the additional work associated with the pandemic. For example, scheduling complexities, increased concerns from students, increased anxiety levels, and remote management challenges. As per discussion in the Academic Senate in Spring, each faculty member is eligible to receive student support to assist with grading (TA, GA, ISA) in Fall 21. All faculty members would be qualified with the amount pro-rated based on appointment. Colleges will continue the Faculty Champions/Leaders program where these have been effective last year.

Funding for Academic Technology Services and Graduate Studies

In addition, Academic Technology Services received funding to support Faculty Development and Technology Support in the Classroom. Graduate Studies received funding to support RSCA scholarships to matriculated students. The RSCA scholarship will facilitate the timely completion of RSCA work for students who suffered delays and/or barriers to completing their RSCA work due to COVID-19.

Funding for Undergraduate Studies, Faculty Affairs, and Library

Undergraduate Studies received funding to support SOAR, additional funding for tutors, embedded tutors, and peer mentors to proactively support students after a challenging year with alternative modes of instructions. The funding for Library supports additional online educational resources. Faculty Affairs funding is to continue with Faculty Learning communities to address issues exacerbated by the pandemic.

Funding Guidelines

The guideline for CRRSAA (HEERF II & III) fund is that these grant funds may be used to defray expenses associated with coronavirus. The grant funds may not be used to fund contractors to provide pre-enrollment recruitment activities, marketing or recruitment, endowments, capital outlays associated with facilities related to athletics, sectarian instruction, or religious worship.

We are grateful for the significant federal support we have received. These funds will go a long way to mitigating some of the many challenges our students, faculty, and staff face during these challenging times.
