Permit Information

Below you will find detailed descriptions of the different parking classifications provided on campus along with permit pricing and parking locations.

Student

Student virtual permits are available for purchase online via e-check (no fee) or credit card (2.75% convenience fee). Fall virtual permits are valid one week prior to the start of instruction and spring virtual permits are valid one day prior to the start of instruction. Academic year virtual permits are valid one week prior to the start of fall instruction to the last day of Summer Intercession.

Virtual Permitting

CSULB now uses the License Plate Recognition (LPR) permitting system. The vehicle’s license plate will be used to verify parking purchases. No physical permits will be issued. There is a 2 vehicle limit per permit.

Where to Park

Student Permits are valid in all General (G) Lots including all three parking structures. Please adhere to the specific rules listed on the signs at the entrance of each lot to avoid a citation. Student parking is also valid in Employee (E) Lots after 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends. A vehicle with a student virtual permit will be cited accordingly if parked in an Employee (E) Lot prior to 5:30 p.m. For locations of general parking lots, please see the campus map.  Students who reside on campus and purchase a resident permit will be limited to Resident (R) Lots Monday-Friday, 12 a.m.-5:30 pm. Residents may park in General (G) and Employee (E) parking lots after 5:30 pm on weekdays and all day on weekends.

Daily or Short-Term Parking

If you have not purchased annual or semester parking, you may choose to purchase a Daily or Short-Term parking from a parking pay station. Short-Term parking may also be purchased via Parkmobile App, a mobile payment option for Short-Term parking purchases on CSULB campus. Additional information and pricing provided in the Daily or Short-Term menu provided below.

​​Sponsored Students

Students who are sponsored by various internal and external departments will need to submit an application through the specific department prior to receiving their parking permit.

Examples of these departments include:

Student Financial Services Office will then process the request for a permit and send an email confirmation. Vehicles parked on campus prior to receiving a permit confirmation may be at risk of being cited.

Student Parking Refunds

Fall, spring, summer or academic year virtual permits may be refunded based on the current value remaining on the permit at the time of return. Refund applications are accepted at the Cashiers Office. Refunds are subject to a one-time, $10 processing fee.

Employee

Employee parking can be purchased online or at the Cashiers Office located on the first floor of Brotman Hall. Payments can be made with cash, check, or debit card, and online with e-check (no fee) or credit card (2.75 % convenience fee). Available employee parking includes full year, academic year or semester depending on employee unit. A pretax payroll deduction is available online (not available for semester permits).

Semester employee parking is valid one week prior to the start of instruction. Annual employee parking is valid from July 1 to June 30 each year. Academic year parking is valid one week prior to the start of fall instruction through the end of the May Intersession. Employee parking is valid in Restricted Parking and General Parking lots. Please review the campus map for the location of Restricted Parking lots. 

Employee Carpool Program

If you are a current CSULB faculty or staff member with paid semester parking or a non-expiring payroll deduction for a virtual permit, we highly encourage that you carpool to campus. Not only do carpool members share the cost of gas and permit fees, but they can also avoid traffic by utilizing the HOV lanes on the freeways leading to campus. Carpooling also qualifies you for points and benefits via the Employee Rideshare Program. Additional information is available on our Carpool webpage.

Employee Parking Refunds

Annual, fall, summer and spring parking is prorated monthly, and based on the value remaining on the virtual permit. No refunds are given for partial months. Employee parking depreciates at a rate proportional to the monthly rate of the virtual permit. A one-time $10.00 processing fee will also be deducted from the value of the virtual permit at the time of request. Refund requests will be accepted up to the date of full depreciation. Refund applications are available at the Cashiers Office on the first floor of Brotman Hall

Residents

Student Residents On Campus ("R" permit)

  • Valid in designated Resident spaces in R1, R2 or R3. Overnight parking is in the designated R lots ONLY.
  • On campus residential parking privileges are also valid in General "G" parking lots after 5:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and all day Fridays/weekends unless the space is otherwise restricted by posted signage. Vehicles parked overnight in these locations may be cited.
  • This parking designation provides parking 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, therefore no additional CSULB parking privileges will be issued.

Student Residents at Beachside ("B" permit)

  • Valid in designated Resident spaces in the Beachside parking lot. Overnight parking privileges are valid in the Beachside parking lot ONLY.
  • Valid in General "G" parking lots on campus after 5:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and all day Fridays and weekends unless the space is otherwise restricted by posted signage. Vehicles parked overnight in these locations may be cited.
  • This parking designation provides parking 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, therefore no additional CSULB parking privileges will be issued.

Resident Motorcycle Option

Residents who have purchased a Residential virtual permit may choose to exchange their permit for a valid Motorcycle permit at no additional charge by visiting the Cashiers Office in Brotman Hall.

Beachside Housing Guests

All guests must purchase either daily or overnight parking to avoid a citation. Hillside and Parkside guests may obtain daily parking in General lots. Overnight parking is available for purchase and valid only in lot G2. Beachside guests may park in short-term parking spaces in the Beachside parking lot. Overnight parking will be available for purchase beginning at 5 p.m. daily.

Short-term parking is available for purchase in the Beachside parking lot. Overnight parking Monday – Thursday: Is available for purchase and valid in only in in the Beachside lot Short-Term parking spaces after 5:30 pm. Overnight parking Friday - Sunday Resident fees include overnight guest permits in accordance with Housing & Residential Life procedures. Permits valid only in the Beachside lot Short-Term parking spaces.

Employee Residents

May park in any employee or general space on campus including employee spaces at Beachside. Parking in designated resident spaces is prohibited.

Campus Shuttle

Take advantage of the campus shuttle program or the Long Beach Transit bus program to assist you in getting around campus and the local community.

 

Daily or Short-Term

Individuals may purchase Daily or Short-Term parking from the parking pay stations located within each parking area. All parking pay stations are cashless, they accept credit cards and debit cards. If paying cash, please visit the VIC. No refunds are provided for Daily or Short-Term parking purchases and all transactions are final.

Daily Parking

Individuals can choose to purchase parking for the day. Daily parking is valid in all lots designated as General Parking unless space is otherwise restricted with posted signage. Daily parking is also allowed in lots designated as Employee Parking after 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends. Daily parking expires at 11:59 p.m. on the date of purchase.

Short-Term Parking

Short-Term parking is available in select areas on campus (G1, G4, G5, G10, G11, G12 G15, E1, E5, E6, State University Drive and the South Turnaround). Please review the campus map for all Short-Term parking locations. Short-Term virtual permits are valid only within the lot in which they were purchased and cannot be transferred to other Short-Term parking locations on campus.

Short-Term parking may also be purchased via the Parkmobile App. Parkmobile is a convenient service that even provides countdown reminders and the ability to extend your purchase via your mobile device. Download the Parkmobile App for Android or iPhone platforms.

Accessible Parking - CSULB Students

Students using a DMV-issued Disabled Persons (DP) placard or distinguishing license plate must also purchase a valid form of paid parking when parking in a disabled or Short-Term parking space. Students requiring accessible parking are not allowed to park in spaces marked as Employee within Employee Lots. Access to Employee spaces within Employee Lots is only permitted after 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, and all day on weekends.

Valid paid parking may be obtained directly at the Cashiers Office during normal business hours or from a parking pay station. Students requesting specific parking accommodations should contact Bob Murphy Access Center at 562.985.5401 or BMAC@csulb.edu.

Accessible Parking - CSULB Faculty & Staff

All faculty and staff using a DMV-issued Disabled Persons (DP) placard or distinguishing license plate must also purchase a form of paid parking when parking in an Accessible or Short-Term parking space on campus. Paid parking can be purchased at the Cashiers Office, through our online parking system, or at the pay stations provided within each lot.

Emeriti

CSULB emeritus faculty and staff are eligible for complimentary parking on campus. Complimentary parking is extended to a CSULB emeritus member in any capacity including FERP, retired, annuitant, consultant, etc.

Steps to obtain Emeriti Parking Privileges:

  •  Go to http://parking.csulb.edu. Please have your license plate and vehicle description ready.
  •  Select Get Permits
  • Log in with your Beach ID and password
  • Follow the instructions on each page including a selection of permit and how to enter your vehicle information

It is critical that your vehicle license plate information is entered correctly at the time of permit registration. Inaccurate or missing vehicle information may result in a parking citation. Up to 2 vehicles may be entered into the system if you drive more than one vehicle to campus, but only one vehicle is allowed on campus at a time.  You can update your vehicle information by using the CSULB Mobile App or by visiting http://parking.csulb.edu

Emeriti permits are valid in lots designated as Restricted, General, and Pyramid, Palo Verde South, and Palo Verde North Parking Structures. If you are an infrequent emeritus visitor, a permit from the Visitor Information Center (VIC) may be issued each day for each emeritus visit to campus. An emeritus identification card is required for proof of status.

Event Parking

If you are attending an event on campus, parking must be purchased. If no instructions are provided by the event coordinator, parking must be purchased upon arrival from a parking attendant at the lot entrance or from a parking pay station if no attendant is present.

Motorcycle fall permits are valid through the winter session. Motorcycle permits can only be used in areas designated as motorcycle parking. View the campus map for the locations of motorcycle parking spaces. Motorcycle parking permits can be purchased at the Cashiers Office in Brotman Hall during normal business hours or online. Motorcycle parking is verified by the License Plate Recognition (LPR) permitting system.

Volunteer

Authorized departmental volunteers may request either academic year or summer semester parking. These permits are authorized by the department for which the individual is volunteering. Your license plate number is required to complete this transaction. Please also bring additional vehicle information (make, model and year) as this allows us to complete your vehicle record. In order to obtain Volunteer Parking, please complete the form provided and bring the completed form along with a valid driver’s license or other identification card to the Cashiers Office in Brotman Hall during normal business hours. Community, Activity, or LifeFit member

Authorized individuals may request a monthly parking at the rates listed. These permits are restricted to Community, Activity, or LifeFit members. In order to obtain monthly parking, please bring the completed form along with a valid driver’s license or other identification card to the Cashiers Office in Brotman Hall during normal business hours. Additional instructions are provided on the form below.

Overnight Parking

The campus provides limited overnight parking for individuals utilizing 24 hour study hall facilities, visitors of University Housing residents, and those who have arranged for special overnight parking approval. Overnight paid parking is required and can be purchased from a parking pay station. G2 is the designated parking area on campus for overnight parking. Additional overnight parking instructions are listed below:

Parkside/Hillside resident guests: Overnight parking is available daily in G2 only. Overnight parking is valid 24 hours from the time of purchase.

Beachside resident guests: Overnight parking is available at Beachside campus daily starting at 5:30 p.m. Overnight parking is valid at Beachside until 9:30 a.m.

Other overnight parking requests: Overnight parking not outlined above must be requested by sending an email to OvernightParkingRequests@csulb.edu for approval. The request must be submitted 24 hours in advance. A confirmation response will be provided once your request has been reviewed. Overnight parking is allowed in G2 only. Please include the following information in your request:

  5. Reason overnight parking is required (business, sporting event, field trip, etc.)
