KURE Transfer Bridge Program

The KURE Transfer Bridge Program is for students who are transferring from a community college to CSULB and is an opportunity for them to participate in research being conducted by faculty in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (CNSM).

Participating students will receive up to $7200 for 10 weeks of research work. All participants will attend a 1-week orientation that includes an introduction to research at The Beach and preparation/training to work in a research lab. They will then join a research lab for the remaining 9 weeks of the program.

Program Goal

The goal of the program is to provide you with an understanding and appreciation for research, while encouraging your transition to CSULB and its student research opportunities.

Project Objectives

  • To increase your ability to apply concepts and skills learned in the classroom to research.
  • To increase your understanding of the research process; that science is a creative process that creates new knowledge.
  • To increase your knowledge of ethical conduct in your field.
  • To increase your ability to interpret results in research and draw conclusions.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Transferring from a community college to CSULB. To qualify for the KURE Transfer Bridge Program, you must accept your Fall 2024 admission offer by submitting a non-refundable $150 enrollment deposit before May 15 and register for SOAR before June 1.
  • U.S. Permanent Resident or U.S. Citizen.
  • Available during program dates.

Application Requirements

Your Application Packet MUST include:

  • KURE Transfer Bridge to The Beach Online Application (link coming soon).
  • Personal Statement (5 paragraph essay, 2 page maximum) addressing the following:
    1. Paragraph 1: Introduce yourself and share your top 3 reasons/motivations for selecting a science or math major.
    2. Paragraph 2: Describe your short- and long-term career goals.
    3. Paragraph 3: Explain how the KURE Transfer Bridge Program will help you reach these goals.
    4. Paragraph 4: Discuss your academic struggles or challenges and how you overcame them.
    5. Paragraph 5: Conclude with a summary of the previous paragraphs, adding anything else about you and your potential as a research scholar.
  • 1- to 2-page Resume.
  • Unofficial transcripts from previous institution(s).
  • Application is due on or before May 29, 2024 by midnight.

Participation is limited, so selection will be competitive. You are encouraged to gather all your application materials early and submit your application as soon as possible.
