Orientation & Registration

SOAR EXPERIENCE OVERVIEW

Student Orientation, Advising, & Registration (SOAR) is a comprehensive new student experience designed to support your transition – both academically and socially – to California State University, Long Beach.  All new first-time/first-year and transfers students are required to complete SOAR.

Make your SOAR reservation in your SSO starting Wednesday, April 3 –the deadline to make a reservation is Saturday, June 1, or by the deadline determined by Admissions.

First Time - First Year SOAR Process

Your reservation consists of only one date for your SOAR workshop, which is when your Orientation, Advising & Registration will all take place in-person.

You'll attend your on-campus, SOAR workshop to take part in campus orientation where you'll learn more about campus life and resources to support your transition to life at Long Beach State and, on the same day, you will meet with your academic college to register for classes.

Transfer SOAR Process

Your reservation consists of two separate dates – one for your Orientation Workshop date and the other for your Registration date.  When making your reservation, you'll see these dates are automatically linked.

First you will attend an in-person or virtual Orientation Workshop where you'll learn more about campus life and resources to support your transition to life at Long Beach State.

Next, your Advising & Registration Process is coordinated by your assigned college advising center or department faculty advisor through a series of emails that provide details, instructions, and deadlines.  Please review the communications for details regarding how and when you'll receive academic advising along with how and when you'll register for your first-semester courses.  Visit Advising & Registration for more information.

Important Notes for ALL incoming students:

  • Prior to attending your SOAR Workshop all students need to complete the Pre-SOAR Canvas Course, which is accessed through the Canvas tile found on your Microsoft MyApps Portal (Single Sign-On). This online course introduces you to our campus community, our resources/services, university policies, and expectations of our community members. Access to this course begins in late May.
  • Submit your Admitted Student Reply and Enrollment Deposit by Wednesday, May 15, 2024, OR the deadline determined by Admissions.  Use your MyCSULB account to accept admission and submit your deposit.
  • All SOAR sessions will be held on campus starting in early June 2024 for incoming First-Time/First-Year students, while sessions for Transfer students begin in early July.  Sessions are held Monday through Friday with check-in starting at 8:00am.

On-Campus, SOAR Sessions for incoming First-Time/First-Year (FTFY) students are offered on specific dates based on your declared/intended major.

Incoming Student-Athletes: You should make a reservation after consulting with your Bickerstaff Center Advisor to prevent any difficulties or confirm special accommodations.
