Orientation & Registration

SOAR EXPERIENCE OVERVIEW

SOAR is a comprehensive new student experience designed to support your transition – both academically and socially – to California State University, Long Beach.  All new first-time/first-year and transfers students are required to complete two components as part of your SOAR Experience: The Orientation Process and the Advising & Registration Process.

Make your SOAR Experience reservation starting at 9am on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 the deadline to make a reservation is Thursday, June 1, 2023.

The reservation consists of two separate dates – one for your Registration date and the other for your Orientation date.  When making your reservation, you'll see these dates are automatically linked.

Advising & Registration Process

Your Advising & Registration Process is coordinated by your assigned college advising center or department faculty advisor through a series of emails that provide details, instructions, and deadlines.  Please review the communications for details regarding how and when you'll receive academic advising along with how and when you'll register for your first-semester courses.  Visit Advising & Registration for more information.

Orientation Process

You will first complete the Pre-SOAR Canvas Course, which is accessed through the Canvas chiclet found on your Microsoft MyApps Portal (Single Sign-On). This online course introduces you to our campus community, our resources/services, university policies, and expectations of our community members. Access to this course begins at 9am on Wednesday, May 24.

Next, you'll attend an On-Campus Orientation Workshop where you'll learn more about campus life from current students, meet other incoming students who share the same major, and participate in group activities that support your transition to life at Long Beach State.

Important Notes:

  • Submit your Admitted Student Reply and Enrollment Deposit by the deadline determined by the university.  Use your MyCSULB account to accept admission and submit your deposit.
  • All workshops will be held on campus starting in early June for First-Time/First-Year students, while workshops for incoming Transfer students begin in early July.  Workshops are held Monday through Friday with check-in starting at 8:30am and workshops concluding by 3:30pm.
  • Per University mandate, all individuals visiting campus must adhere to the COVID-19 requirements found on the COVID-19 Information and Resources website.  Please contact us if you need assistance or have any questions – call 562.985.5515 or email soar@csulb.edu.

On-Campus Orientation Workshops for incoming First-Time/First-Year (FTFY) students are offered on specific dates based on your declared/intended major.

Incoming Student-Athletes: You should make a reservation after consulting with your Bickerstaff Center Advisor to prevent any difficulties or confirm special accommodations.
