As of August 2025, there are 21.25 FTE counselors providing direct student service - the largest number ever at CSULB.

Yes! On-call counselors are available during university operating hours for urgent needs.

Call 562-985-4001 to connect with a counselor by phone, or text BEACH to 741741 for immediate support in English or Spanish.

No. Since 2020, CAPS has not had a waitlist.

The first available appointment fluctuates every day based on counselor availability. Sometimes we can schedule you an appointment within the same week and other times it might be a little longer, but we’ll let you know when you call! You might also want to pick a time that’s more convenient for you. 

Currently enrolled CSULB students. Faculty and staff can be referred to the Faculty & Staff Assistance Program or Life Matters by Empathia

Counseling services are free for currently enrolled students.

Individual counseling, group counseling, drop-in spaces.

There are no session limits on student appointments with CAPS. Steps for care are discussed between each provider and student. 

Yes! Information you share is confidential except in cases of safety concerns (harm to self or others) or as required by law.

Yes! Both in-person and virtual appointments are available.

Parents can call for general information, but details about student visits are confidential unless the student provides written consent to share information.
