A Message From Provost Jersky

Dear Campus Community,

Our campus is wondering, together with all college campuses across the nation, ‘what is the future of higher education?’ In a real sense, the nature and structure of higher education is up for reconsideration, reinvention, and re-imagination.

This is where Beach 2030 comes into play.  We are reinventing how our campus is executing strategic planning.  Our goal is to create a sustainable model for our campus.

I am excited about the new direction our campus is taking. That being said, I am sure some of you are skeptical of this new initiative. Some might be asking if it is simply going to be ‘another’ directive for our campus. I assure you all that this is not the case. Our campus has not seen anything like this before.

At convocation, President Conoley and I explained the upcoming next steps our campus will take as we embark on this new initiative. The process will be participatory, inclusive, and transparent and we will ask every community stakeholder to help us think about and chart a new path for CSULB. This collective effort will help us direct this change and emerge stronger.

Ultimately we are being charged with uprooting today’s view of our educational process, and conceptualizing the new futuristic 2030 university. This process will set up our campus for the next generation of educators, students and community.

I am looking forward to launching this ambitious campaign with you.

Go Beach!

Brian Jersky
Provost and Senior Vice President
