Navigating Neurodiversity in the Classroom
Up to 20% of our students identify as neurodivergent and that number is growing! So how can faculty foster supportive learning environments that promote access and dignity while maintaining rigorous academic standards? Join us for this interactive workshop to find out!
Tuesday, April 14 | 12-1:45pm | AS-125 (lunch included)
- Aisha Pridgen, Academic Conflict Resolution Manager ~ Faculty Affairs
- Mary Nguyen, Director ~ BMAC
Current higher education statistics suggest that up to 20% of college students identify as neurodivergent. As this population continues to grow, faculty are increasingly navigating complex teaching and learning dynamics that can include communication misunderstandings, misaligned expectations, and moments of conflict.
Faculty attendees will gain a foundational understanding of neurodivergence and its relevance in higher education learning environments. Additionally, faculty will receive the opportunity to recognize common signals of neurodivergent experiences, apply a strengths-based framework, and practice strategies for communication, de-escalation, and conflict resolution. The session will focus on supporting students with clarity and care while maintaining academic standards and fostering learning environments that promote access and dignity.
