The 68-member Symphonic Jazz Orchestra conducted by Mitch Glickman returns to Long Beach presenting a concert featuring newly commissioned works. The program begins with George Duke’s “Festival,” followed by two world premieres by composers Jihye Lee and Remy LeBoeuf. The concert is a blend of jazz, classical, and Brazilian influences that is the trademark of the world-class ensemble.

Conducted by Jacob Sustaita, the program features Gabriela Lena Frank’s Three Latin American Dances, Britten’s “Four Sea Interludes” from Peter Grimes, and Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, featuring John Lonergan, winner of the 2021/2022 Instrumental Concerto Competition, on the piano.

Conducted by Interim Associate Director of Bands Ricardo Espinosa, the Symphonic Band presents a diverse and powerful program culminating in the emblematic showpiece, “Huapango de Moncayo.” Newly appointed Director of Bands Jermie Arnold leads the acclaimed CSULB Wind Symphony through Vincent Persichetti’s “Symphony for Band,” Frank Ticheli’s “Rest,” and “Rivers of Air” by Jake Runestad.
