Collaboration and Exchange

Expanding the educational experiences and opportunities for growth for our students, working with artists in residence to assist them in expanding their practices, and expanding and enriching our broader community and field of contemporary ceramic art, all begin with the collaboration and exchange that comes from bringing guest artists and scholars into our learning and making community. 

Over the years, our guest artists and scholars have participated in collaboration and exchange with our students and faculty in a variety of ways: 

  • Giving lectures and demonstrations; 
  • Participating in critiques and studio visits, conducting special short-term classes, and leading experimental workshops; 
  • Working in both short-term and long-term residencies alongside our students in our studios;  
  • Participating in special work-intensive programs in which multiple guest artists work as a group in our studios for two to three weeks alongside our students; 
  • Working both on- and off-site on ceramic projects with the consultation, assistance, and/or collaboration of CSULB Ceramic Arts students and faculty.   

Over two-hundred artists and scholars hailing twenty different countries have participated in these activities, some of them returning to our campus multiple times because of how much they have enjoyed sharing in our learning and creative community.
