Background

The TFS Conference is organized with the support of the CLA Thematic Initiative and funded by a generous contribution from former CLA Dean Dorothy (Dee) Abrahamse. For the 2023-2024 academic year, the selected theme is Transnational Feminist Solidarities, an intellectual and activist effort that spans across disciplinary areas within the liberal arts and that powerfully informs activist organizing both within and outside the university.  The conference is free and open to the public.

The proposal for the Transnational Feminist Solidarities theme was co-constructed and submitted by five interdisciplinary feminist CLA faculty (listed alphabetically): Drs. Sabrina Alimahomed-Wilson (Sociology), Lori Baralt (Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, WGSS), Azza Basarudin (WGSS), Araceli Esparza (ENGL), and Stacy Macias (WGSS).

The core conference committee includes the following faculty (listed alphabetically): Drs. Azza Basarudin (WGSS), Araceli Esparza (ENGL), Stacy Macias (WGSS), Felicia Montes (CHLS), and Preeti Sharma (AMST); and two representatives from the CLA Dean’s Office, Sabella Moreno (Assistant to the Deans) and Associate Dean Donna Nicol, who joined the committee after former Associate Dean, Dan O’Connor, retired.
