John Carroll in a field

I am a benthic ecologist, broadly interested in applied questions related to critical coastal habitats to improve management and restoration outcomes.  I received my BS in Marine Science at Southampton College, my PhD in Marine Science at Stony Brook University, and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.  I am currently a Professor of Biology and the Director of the Institute of Coastal Plain Science at Georgia Southern. The Carroll Restoration and Benthic Ecology Lab at Georgia Southern uses basic ecological frameworks to address applied research questions to inform management and restoration efforts for ecologically and commercially important species.

About the Seminar Series

The Seminar Series is a unique opportunity for students to learn about new developments in biology and what biologists do after they graduate. Hosted by the Department of Biological Sciences at California State University, Long Beach, the weekly meetings invite guests from universities, research laboratories, and industry to present and discuss current topics in biology. All students are encouraged to attend.
