Long Beach Bike Share, Limited Time CSULB Discount

To celebrate the launch of the new locations on campus, LB Bike Share is offering a special promotional rate of $20/year to all staff, faculty, and students for a limited time (a 75% savings off the regular price). The popular Long Beach Bike Share program now has seven new stations on CSULB campus. You can check out a Bike Share bike and commute to and from campus with ease, avoid the hassle of parking, save money on gas, and stay healthy. LB Bike Share can also be a great option for errands during lunch. You can download the Social Bicycles Mobile App to view an interactive map of all Bike Share stations and to reserve a bike using your mobile device. Construction Impacting Parking in Lots 7 and 8

Construction Impacting Parking in Lots 7 and 8: Ten parking spots in Lot 7 will be closed due to solar installation from Wednesday, October 25 through Saturday, November 11, between the hours of 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 30 spots between the hours of 4 a.m. – 8 a.m. daily. All stalls will be open after 1 p.m. daily.

Nine parking spots on the south side of Lot 8 will be closed starting October 25 for construction on the Peterson Hall #2 building (Student Success Center). Over time, 23 more spots will be used for staging and logistics, for a total of 32 stalls closed in Lot 8. Disabled parking will not be affected. Parking on the south side of Lot 7 is available as an alternative for employees (7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.) and students after 5:30 p.m.

Move a Mile in Our Shoes – Friday, October 27, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Disabled Student Services (DSS) at California State University, Long Beach is hosting "Move a Mile in Our Shoes," a one-mile fun walk held on the CSULB track to raise accessibility awareness and scholarship monies for DSS students.  The fun walk is open to the campus community including staff, faculty, students and other campus personnel. Please invite family, friends, and colleagues to support your participation by donating at the Donate/Sponsor Page.

Homecoming 2017 – Saturday, November 4

Tech Day Thursday, November 2 at Speaker’s Platform

CSULB’s 2nd Annual Tech Day will be next Thursday, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Speaker’s Platform. Hosted by CSULB technology organizations, Tech Day is dedicated to promoting and showcasing campus technology services for students, faculty, and staff members. BeachBoard is Going Mobile for Spring 2018

On December 27, 2017, BeachBoard will be upgraded to a fresh, new look with a mobile-friendly layout that improves usability for faculty and students alike.

Even if you aren’t negotiating contracts, you likely spend part of your day in discussions to reach an agreement. Check out these negotiation nuggets, resources to develop these critical skills.

Issue-focused Negotiation: Are You Ready? is a 36-minute course focused on approaches to help you prepare, recognize the impact of various communication practices, and recommended practices for negotiating.

You and Your Negotiating Counterpart focuses on the people side of negotiation, increasing the level of trust your negotiating counterpart has in you, determining your counterpart’s negotiation personality type, and adjusting your approach based on your counterpart's negotiating personality.

Finding the best solution is highlighted in the 27-minute course, Reaching a Negotiated Agreement. The course emphasizes recognizing the value of having creative solution options, facilitating agreement by offering and modifying options, and recognizing and applying strategies for gaining agreement.

The book Body Language Secrets to Win More Negotiations: How to Read Any Opponent and Get What You Want has engaging stories and examples to help you discover what the “other side” is revealing through body language and micro-expressions. You’ll be shown how to control your own body language and how to employ a wide range of strategies to achieve your negotiating goals.

A professional development plan can be created in conjunction with your ASM and appropriate administrator, which can be completed electronically through this program. Appropriate administrator approval must be obtained in advance to complete coursework during work hours.
