Undergraduate Research Resources

In an effort to expand undergraduate research opportunities for all students on campus, the Office of Undergraduate Research Services (OURS) works in collaboration with many other programs and resource centers on campus to adequately serve our student body. Below are some research resource centers and opportunities available for undergraduate and graduate students interested in presenting their research, receive funding and support for their research, and applying for grants that assist with conference registration.

President's Commission on the Status of Women

The President’s Commission on the Status of Women serves the campus community through initiating, advocating and implementing action that addresses the concerns of CSULB women students, faculty, staff and administrators. The Commission represents all University women in order to ensure that their status continues to be strengthened and enhanced.

Women's Research Colloquium

PCSW’s mission is to ensure that the University responds to the needs of women by removing inequitiesand providing a supportive educational, working and social environment for all members of the campuscommunity. In line with this mission, the Women’s Research Colloquium is held annually to provide aforum in which CSULB scholars—faculty, staff, and students—can share research done by women and/orrelated to women’s issues and concerns.

Pre-Doctoral Scholars

The Sally Casanova Pre-Doctoral Scholars Program provides funding to enable current CSU students to explore whether graduate school is right for them and to prepare those who are certain they want to pursue a Ph.D. program in their chosen field of study.

CSULB Student Research Competition

The purpose of the Annual Student Research Competition is to showcase excellence in scholarly research, and highlight creative activity conducted by CSULB undergraduate and graduate students. The Student Research Competition will feature oral presentations to an audience of fellow students, university community members, and a jury of distinguished faculty. 

CSU-Systemwide Student Research Competition

The CSU-Systemwide Student Research Competition is a research competition held to promote excellence in undergraduate and graduate scholarly research and creative activity by recognizing outstanding student accomplishments throughout the twenty-three campuses of the California State University. To qualify, students must place in their respective campus' Student 

National Conferences on Undergraduate Research (NCUR)

The National Conferences on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) is a gathering of student scholars welcomes presenters from all institutions of higher learning and from all corners of the academic curriculum. Through this annual conference, NCUR creates a unique environment for the celebration and promotion of undergraduate student achievement; provides models of exemplary research, scholarship, and creative activity; and helps to improve the state of undergraduate education. 

Gilman International Scholarships

The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, providing them with skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity. The Institute of International Education has administered the program since its inception in 2001.

Fulbright Scholarships

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs.  A candidate will submit a Statement of Grant Purpose defining activities to take place during one academic year in a participating country outside the U.S.
