Lecturer Lifeline
Lecturers make up more than half of CSULB faculty, yet many feel adrift from their professional and social campus communities. Lecturer Lifeline was created to change that.
Our Goals
We are a learning community that supports CSULB lecturers through career growth workshops and communal gatherings. Our work is guided by three goals:
- Closing informational gaps about evaluation materials, lecturer faculty rights and entitlements, and other important topics through workshops, presentations, shared sample materials, and group discussion.
- Supporting lecturer well-being as an essential part of student-centered teaching. Lecturers make up the majority of CSULB faculty and teach an even larger share of its students, often in large lecture or general education courses with many non-majors.
- Building community where participants can ask questions, voice concerns without fear of departmental reprisal, and support one another with both camaraderie and solutions.

A judgment-free space for questions
"Having the support of a group of colleagues that I could speak with openly without fear of judgment or ostracism has been one of the most important aspects of this learning community. I had not realized how having a sense of belonging and understanding helped me to ease the stress and anxiety that is experienced when feeling like an outsider”
A stronger sense of community
"For the first time in my twenty years as a lecturer here at CSULB, I really feel a genuine sense of community and connection with lecturers beyond those with whom I share an office.”
A hopeful vision of lecturer employment
"More often than we care to think, lecturers may experience isolation from colleagues in their department or may feel under-appreciated or simply 'invisible' due to our precarious social position in the academic hierarchy. And yet, we may not realize that this situation does not have to continue and that an alternative to current conditions is very possible. This was one of the major take-away messages from this semester's experience in the Lecturers Lifeline Learning Community.”
A friendly space for needed information
“I enjoyed attending the socials and meeting new people from other departments. The most impactful workshop was the “Know Your Rights as a Lecturer.”
A meaningful impact on CSULB lecturers
“The lecturer Lifeline series and its leadership team are an integral part of the lecturer community on campus here at CSULB. All of the events I attended were safe and welcoming spaces that allowed me to share candidly the strengths and challenges as a CSU lecturer in ways that are productive, supportive, and community-oriented.”
